The jolly man in the red suit will leave the reindeer to graze for a few extra days and arrive in a hot rod for Enderley’s Christmas in the Park next month.

The annual event, to be held on December 9, will also give Santa Claus a chance to replenish his energy levels ahead of the big day, with numerous food stalls and a kids barbecue also arranged.

Shannon Kelly, Hamilton City Council’s Hamilton East Youth Advisor, says Enderley’s Christmas in the Park is one of the liveliest and fun days in the suburb’s calendar.

“We usually get between 300 and 500 people through, and one of the most popular activities is Dunk-a-Cop, involving our local Community Policing Team” Shannon says.

Shannon says the Dunk-a-Cop activity has participants throwing a tennis ball at a target, which if hit triggers the plunging of a police officer into a shallow pool.

Other attractions on the day include carnival-style rides, bouncy castles and mini-jeep rides.

Shannon says it’s not too late for people or groups wishing to have a stall to register their interest with organisers. As well as food, stalls already confirmed will be selling small goods such as t-shirts and clothing, and also represent other community organisations.

Enderley’s Christmas in the Park is free, and runs from 4pm to 8pm, at Enderley Park, 66 Tennyson Road, Hamilton. The event is sponsored by Hamilton City Council, Trust Waikato, Talking Tech Foundation, OTS Consulting and First Credit Union.
