Charities the big winners when pizza turned into $20,000 worth of dough the in Wellington region, all thanks to a community-minded franchisee.

Wellington and Hutt Valley charities and community groups are more than $20,000 better off thanks to the generosity of Domino’s Pizza outlets in the region.

Domino’s Pizza stores in Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Petone, Wainuiomata and Porirua have made the generous contribution thanks to Doughraiser events held throughout the year.

Doughraisers see $1 from every pizza sold on a specified day donated to a local charity, community group, school or sports team.

Amanda and Mark Oliver, franchisees of the five stores, say they’re thrilled to have made such a valuable contribution to the greater Wellington community during the last 12 months.

More than $11,000 has been raised through weekly Doughraisers held at Ms Oliver’s Upper Hutt store, while the other four stores have contributed about $2000 each from various events.

Additionally, in May, a further $1100 was raised in a combined effort across the five stores for the Life Flight Westpac Rescue Helicopter appeal.

“Given the global recession, we’re seeing more and more groups and charities struggling to make ends meet,” says Mrs Oliver.

“If this money goes some way towards kitting out a sports team in uniform, or our local rescue helicopter being able to make more flights, then we’re only too happy to help.”

Domino’s New Zealand General Manager Josh Kilmnik says the company has a strong focus on philanthropy and giving back to the communities that support them.

He says Ms Oliver’s contribution and commitment to her community in 2011 has been outstanding.

“Amanda has worked tirelessly throughout the year to help hundreds of different groups. It’s fantastic to see how much effort she and her staff have put in to fostering community relationships and offering people a helping hand when they need it,” he says.

Struggling community groups can rest assured that Domino’s Pizza Doughraisers will be back again in 2012, contributing more money to deserving groups throughout the Wellington region.
