Kiesanowski finishes 8th in World Cup omnium

Christchurch cyclist Joanne Kiesanowski has finished eighth in the omnium on the final day of the UCI World Cup in Colombia.

Kiesanowski had three solid performances on the second day, finishing 12th in the individual pursuit, 11th in the scratch race and 12th in the 500m time trial.

Her effort was highlighted with the win in the elimination race on the first day.

World champion Sarah Hammer (USA) took out the omnium from Canada’s Tara Whitten.

Meanwhile sprinters Eddie Dawkins and Sam Webster bowed out of the men’s sprint in the round of eight. The pair qualified in the competitive field with Dawkins (Invercargill) 10th fastest in 10.268 and Webster 13th fastest in 10.326.

Dawkins lost in the round of eight to Germany’s Rene Enders and Webster went out to Trinidad’s Njisane Phillip.

The next round of the World Cup is next month in Beijing.
