  • On the radio this morning the Maritime Union of New Zealand stated that there were just a few “tweaks” required to the existing collective agreement, that there was nothing untoward and that the strike wasn’t about money. If that is the case, the Maritime Union should stop holding NZ to ransom.

  • New Zealand businesses are hurting as a result of this strike; Auckland ratepayers who will have to cover the loss; retailers whose shelves won’t be restocked for Christmas; the just in time manufacturer who is waiting on imports to complete an order; the exporter who has spent a lifetime building their client base off shoe and now won’t be able to deliver; the self-employed transport operator who is dependent on port work.
