Wakatipu Youth Trust benefits from "biggest ever" Shotover Jet locals' day

Queenstown’s Wakatipu Youth Trust has benefitted from tourism icon Shotover Jet’s “biggest ever” locals day to the tune of more than $10,000.

Well over 900 people took a ride with multi-award-winning Shotover Jet on Saturday (December 3), of whom more than 600 were keen locals, including families and school groups.

Proof of residency was all it took for locals to line up for first-in, first served rides for a cash donation of just $20 for adults and $10 for children between 5 and 15.

“We were absolutely thrilled to raise a grand total of $10,730 for the Wakatipu Youth Trust, the most we’ve ever raised in all the years we’ve been doing our locals’ day,” said Shotover Jet General Manager Clark Scott.

“It was a great chance for local people to come and experience ‘The World’s Most Exciting Jet Boat Ride’ on the famous ‘Big Red’ jet boats and at the same time support a fantastic and worthwhile cause with the focus on youth and family,” he said.

“Without the support of our local community, we wouldn’t be as successful as we are, so it’s important for us to give something back to the locals who have looked after us for so many years.”

In recent years Shotover Jet’s annual Locals’ Day has raised funds for various local causes including Branches Charitable Trust, Plunket Wakatipu, Diabetes Wakatipu Society, Wakatipu Abuse Prevention Network, Age Concern, the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Victim Support.

The tourism attraction is 100% owned and operated by Ngāi Tahu Tourism, one of New Zealand’s premier tourism operators.
