Road Resurfacing in New Plymouth's CBD
The next stage of a four-year project to improve road surfaces in New Plymouth’s CBD will begin in January.
Sections of Brougham and Devon Street will have the top layers of seal removed and a new pavement laid with a hotmix surface.
This work follows similar improvements carried out earlier this year on Devon Street West, and Gover and Hobson streets.
“The contractor will minimise disruption to the public as much as possible but there will be work that drivers and pedestrians have to negotiate around, so we ask for people’s patience when this is under way,” says Manager Roading Assets Max Aves.
“At the end of it we’ll have a good road surface that will stand up well to the high use that it gets.”
Work is programmed to start in early January on Brougham Street between Devon Street West and Powderham Street. The work will be done during daylight hours from 7.30am to 7.00pm each day.
The taxi rank will be relocated temporarily to a nearby site.
When Brougham is completed, the road pavement of Devon Street East from Currie to Liardet streets will be rebuilt, followed by Devon Street East between Gover and Eliot streets. Contractors will work overnight on each of these sections from 6.00pm to 7.00am.
“The start dates of the Devon Street sections will depend on when work on the previous section is finished, which will be dictated by the weather,” says Mr Aves.
“We’ll keep people up to date with progress.”
No work will be undertaken from 20-26 February so that Americarna isn’t disrupted.
Letters with details about the project are being sent today to building occupiers on Brougham Street, and on Devon Street from Egmont to Eliot streets. Updates will be posted online at newplymouthnz.com/CBDRoadWorks, and on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
