The New Zealand Thoroughbred Bonus Scheme is again providing a much needed injection of funding into the local racing industry in the 2011/12 season.

The TBS scheme has provided an on-going number of race bonuses to owners in New Zealand this season to boost the prize-money levels.

In particular two $30,000 bonuses have been struck already this season.

The first of these was won by the connections of Coat Of Arms at Riccarton on August 6 and the second by the owners of Antonio Lombardo at Ruakaka on September 11.

There have been a number of other bonuses paid out to horses signed up for the TBS this season.
Since it began in 2004, TBS has proven itself to be a very successful and much needed scheme. This is because racehorse owners don’t ask to be guaranteed to win but require to be able to compete for good stakes relative to costs on a regular basis. The TBS incentive scheme affords them this opportunity.

In 2007, NZTR transferred ownership of TBS to NZ Livestock Ltd and the scheme administrator became Cambridge Thoroughbred Sales. Since then the scheme has been extensively remodelled and it now has three bonus levels, significantly increased bonus amounts and substantial prizes for horses earning the most points in bonus races.

These improvements have been made possible through the generosity of TBS Chairperson Ada Parnwell QSM, a Past President of the New Zealand Racehorse Owners Federation and a former board member of the NZ Racing Conference.
