Peter Dunne needs to ask the people of Ohariu, who placed their trust in him, if they want to see our state owned assets sold thanks to his vote, Green Party Co-leader Dr Russel Norman said today.

National lost a seat to the Green Party after the special votes were counted meaning Peter Dunne's one vote could now stop National's plan of privatising state owned assets.

"Peter Dunne has a chance to stop National selling our state owned assets," said Dr Norman.

"Mr Dunne himself has stated prior to the election that voters would be voting for John Key not asset sales.

"Mr Dunne is on the record saying in principle he is opposed to asset sales. Now is the time to put his principles into action and actually oppose the sales.

"Saying he is opposed to selling Kiwibank, which isn't even on the block, won't stop our power companies being sold.

"Peter Dunne must know selling our assets will almost certainly result in partial control of New Zealand's electricity infrastructure shifting offshore.

"To maximise the price for the state owned assets the Government will need to sell some of these assets to foreign owners.

"This policy, once enacted, will be next to impossible for future Government's to unravel," said Dr Norman.

"Peter Dunne's legacy to those that support him should not be selling off New Zealand's state owned assets."
