INSTALLATION of a major water connection at the intersection of North Street and Kimbolton Road, Feilding, was successfully carried out last week after the area was closed to traffic for a day because of the extent of the project.

The large unit connects with the main trunk from the water treatment plant at Almadale Road that runs under Kimbolton Road into the town and branches off down North Street towards the reservoir at Fraser Drive.

Water Manager Wayne Spencer said the water main at the corner was quite old and needed to be replaced with new valves and pipe work after causing leaking problems for the last two years.

“It’s a very complicated intersection regarding approaches and angles,” he said, “and because of the depth of the main and the amount of work to be done, it was safer and far more economical to close the intersection to traffic.”

Mr Spencer said the contractors had completed the project on Thursday with few problems.
