Wairarapa Police arrest shoplifters
Wairarapa Police have arrested five people last night after a shoplifting spree in the Wellington district yesterday.
Detective Tracey Calder of the Wairarapa CIB says four females and one male, aged between 18 and 35 years, jointly face theft and receiving charges and have appeared today in the Masterton District Court.
"The group was located by a Police patrol vehicle in Carterton at about 7pm last night with the stolen goods in their vehicle. The items located included children's and adults clothing, jewellery, toiletries, linen and grocery products with an estimated at approximately $3500."
Detective Calder says enquiries are continuing in an attempt to identify where some of the items have come from.
Police urge retailers to be vigilant with respect to shoplifters, especially as we near Christmas when there is historically an increase in this type of offending.
"We would like to hear from any retailers or members of the public that suspect a person is shoplifting, to contact us immediately as we rely on the community to help us to catch these people".
If you have information please contact the Wairarapa Police on (06) 370 0300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
