Christchurch police investigating the murder of Hayden Miles are examining a further location in relation to the case.

A scene examination began this morning at the Memorial Park Cemetery, not far from the Ruru Lawn Cemetery where a scene examination has been under way since Monday.

Police will not be commenting on the results of the post-mortem examination, and any announcement on the formal identification will be made once the process for informing next of kin has been completed.

The family of Hayden Miles are expected to make a public statement through Police, after the formal identification process is completed.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill says the investigation team is continuing to work on gathering evidence in the case. Some 30 police staff remain working full time on the case, although the investigation is expected to be scaled back in the coming weeks.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hill says the meticulous investigation over the past three weeks has been helped by good cooperation from the public.

"We have spoken to hundreds of people and dealt with a number of locations and scenes. At all times we have had excellent cooperation from the public and those we've been talking to - and this has been an important contribution to the progress of the enquiry into what happened to Hayden."

NOTE: Media are reminded that in this case, a prosecution is under way and is now before the courts. Police are unable to comment on the facts of the investigation as this is part of the court process.
