LOWER HUTT

Businesses within Lower Hutt have made an ongoing contribution to community activities in spite of a challenging year, Mayor of Lower Hutt, Ray Wallace, told a Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce business breakfast at the Petone Club.

“The effort and support shown by the business community in working within their communities has been really appreciated,” he said.“

Council has continued to be active in pursuing new opportunities and achieved a number of successes that were encouraging.

“We have been assured of the ongoing presence of Industrial Research Limited within Lower Hutt and much work is being done to recognise the value of the science valley concept for the area.

"The arrival of the Ultra Fast Broadband, and the selection of Lower Hutt as one of the first centres to have the new infrastructure installed, has been particularly encouraging.

“High value business today operates in a global environment and we already have a number of successful businesses operating in Lower Hutt and the broader Wellington region while trading globally.

The city council was also playing its part in being effective in the way it manages its own business and the decision by the New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation to grant the council a gold award provided evidence we are doing a lot of things really well.

“I hope that we can continue to work closely with the business community into the New Year and that everyone has an opportunity to take a break and return safe and ready to tackle the challenges ahead,” the Mayor said.
