LOWER HUTT

After much deliberation and anticipation the Hutt Night Market on Laings Road is now well underway.

The first two evenings attracted a combined estimated audience of more than 13,000 shoppers and the Night Market will continue to build as more stalls join the line up and word spreads.

If you have been to the market you will have seen the fabulous stalls lined up under an array of multi coloured gazebos and purpose built mobile kitchens mixing in a unique way with the shopping public.

Behind the scenes the market has come together remarkably quickly with a team of people happy with their start but ready to build on this to develop the market to its full size and potential as quickly as possible.

A quiet achiever of this team is Earthlink.

Earthlink is a non-profit NGO recently relocated to Wingate, which provides supported employment, training and other services to clients of the health services including mental health, addiction and disability.

Each week Earthlink staff have the task of transforming Laings Road into a market place, putting up gazebos and installing electricity, lights, and rubbish bins. When the market ends, they pack everything away ready for next week.

This work provides Earthlink with up to five full time-equivalent jobs and they are an invaluable part of making the Hutt Night Market possible.
