Have Your Say About Indoor Sports Centre Design, Traffic
Wellington City Council is giving the community a chance to find out what the Indoor Community Sports Centre at Kilbirnie will look like and to hear the latest information about what impact the Centre is likely to have on traffic in the area.
The resulting feedback will help finalise the detailed design and traffic mitigation work.
There will be a public meeting from 7.30 to 9pm on Wednesday 31 October at the Evans Bay Intermediate School Hall, Kilbirnie.
Preliminary design concepts for the Indoor Community Sports Centre will be presented, showing how the completed Centre will look, how it will be used and how it will fit into its surroundings.
Also presented will be a Traffic Impact Assessment by engineers Sinclair Knight Merz. The report says that while the increased volume of traffic will put extra pressure on an already at-times busy road network, a range of improvements will ensure the impact will be minor.
The Council wants to hear what the community thinks about these important aspects of the Indoor Community Sports Centre, and if there are concerns, how these could be addressed.
Mayor Kerry Prendergast says the public meeting will be an opportunity for the community to hear first-hand more details about the Indoor Community Sports Centre.
"A lot of care and consideration has gone into the design of the Indoor Community Sports Centre to ensure it doesn't impact negatively on its neighbours. We want to make sure all residents in the area are properly informed about the centre. This meeting will allow us to do that. It will also allow us to discuss issues the community may have. This is going to be a wonderful facility for Wellington, one we can all be proud of," she says.
