An upgrade of the children’s playground at Queens Square in Hastings has been completed ahead of the Christmas holidays.

New equipment has been installed including a slide, climbing area, swings, a carousel and equipment designed especially for pre schoolers. While designing the new playground, council has given consideration to other users and the historic nature of the park. That has resulted in the installation of some more “traditional” play equipment.

The project also included the installation of new pathways, which will provide convenient access to the new playground. A pathway circuit surrounding the playground will allow children to practice their bike riding skills in a safe environment.

Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says “It’s pleasing that the project has been completed prior to the Christmas holidays. The park is a popular venue for kids of all ages and the new equipment and circuit track are likely to be well used over the holiday break by locals and visitors alike. Christmas is a great time for families to come together and Queens Square in Parkvale is set to play a part in family celebrations.”

Mr Yule says “This project is part of Hastings District Council’s ongoing commitment to providing quality parks and reserves for the community. Queens Square is already seen as an extremely valuable asset to the community and this upgrade will ensure that it continues to be well used by all.”

There has already been positive feedback from the community on the new facilities and the high usage is early confirmation of its popularity.
