A new pathway and pavilion will become an added feature of the Frimley Rose gardens following the installation of a new stormwater infrastructure.

The new one meter pipe is required to take stormwater away from the Lyndhurst subdivision in Frimley and will connect with existing infrastructure in Lyndhurst Road. The route will take the underground pipe around the perimeter of Frimley Park and through part of the rose gardens.

Spokesperson for the Hastings Rose Society Cheryl Lattey says “One row of roses will be removed during the installation of the stormwater pipe. Once the installation of the pipe is complete, the roses and the garden beds will be replaced and a new path will be constructed to run through the centre of the gardens.”

“The path will be a major boost for visitors by increasing connectivity and accessibility to the gardens and will greatly improve disability access. A proposal is also being developed which could see a sensory garden for people with a disability being placed down each side of the path” Cheryl Lattey says.

“The Rose Society is also funding the construction of a new pavilion which will provide shady cover for visitors to the gardens and be a major boost during community events like Rose Sunday. The pavilion will be modelled on a traditional park rotunda and will compliment the current style of the gardens.”

Cheryl Lattey says “The society will continue to work closely with council to ensure that the changes cause as little disruption in the gardens as possible and those rose bushes which can be saved are replanted in the gardens. Once the pathway is completed new roses will be planted which will ensure the gardens can be viewed with pride by the community.”

Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says “The new path and pavilion will be a great asset for the community. The pavilion in particular will add enormous value to this hugely valued community asset and the gardens will continue to be a wonderful place to visit for residents and visitors alike.”

Work in the Rose Garden is expected to begin on Monday, January 16th and the whole project will take around four months to complete.
