WELLINGTON

The general public now have access to the upgraded Greater Wellington GIS Mapping Viewer. The site can be launched from the existing Quicklink 'GIS maps of the region' on the GWRC website homepage, or by using the link http://mapping.gw.govt.nz/gwrc/

Data layers have been arranged by Theme to match the website and feature a host of new additions including Flood Protection, Water Supply, Managed Open Spaces, Selected Land Use Register and Resource Consents. The latter two layers, amongst others, will be automatically updated on a daily basis from January 2012 and land parcel data from LINZ will be automatically updated monthly.

Users are able to download data in spreadsheet format using the Identify tool and GIS professionals will be able to add the published Themes plus the aerial photography basemapping directly into their mapping projects.

Hopefully launch of the site will result in a reduced number of mapping-related helpdesk telephone enquiries throughout the organisation.

Many thanks to all the business unit representatives who assisted with User Acceptance Testing on this project.

Greater Wellington is also hosting the Masterton and Wairarapa Combined District Mapping Viewer as part of a regional GIS initiative.
