The Queenstown Lakes District Council has extended the entry date for its Kids Photo Competition, QLDC communications manager Meaghan Miller said.

The competition, themed ‘Our People, Our Place’ is seeking photographs that celebrate the people and places young people love in this district, with the images being used to illustrate the new 10-Year Plan due for release next year.

Ms Miller said they had already received some stunning entries.

“We’ve been delighted with the response so far but with everyone so busy in the run up to Christmas we felt it would be worthwhile keeping the entries open a little longer.”

“With the school holidays now underway, the younger members of our community will have more time to get out there and get snapping.”

The competition is open to all school aged children in the district, from pre-school to high school.

“We’ll be selecting twenty to thirty shots to feature on the covers and inside the three volumes of the plan,” Ms Miller said.

“The single best shot as judged by Mayor van Uden will win the photographer a new Nikon Coolpix camera.”

Rules and entry forms were available from QLDC offices, local libraries and on the Council website www.qldc.govt.nz.

Photos would be accepted in any format from negatives through to jpegs and Ms Miller said photos could be taken on any sort of camera including disposable and cellphone cameras.

“Kids now have another month to find their subjects and start taking photos. There’s a lot of creativity out there and we’re looking forward to seeing some really cool images from all corners of our district.

The competition closing date is now 5pm, Friday 27 January.
