Federated Farmers wishes to hear from farms that have lost utilities or suffered damage, following the latest Canterbury earthquake. It is also requesting the assistance of media to communicate this.

“Initial reports to Federated Farmers from our members is that is was an especially violent event,” says Bruce Wills, Federated Farmers President.

“While it has not been centred on the City it has struck rural Canterbury.

“Right now dairy farms are on twice a day milking so continuity of electricity is vital. It’s fair to say that there might have been damage to grain silos as well. It’s why we need to get a picture of rural infrastructure.

“If farms have lost utilities, we are asking them to text David Broome, our Communications Manager, on 027 448 9170. If they have electricity, they can email him on dbroome@fedfarm.org.nz,” Mr Wills concluded.
