MARLBOROUGH

Welcome in the New Year at family-friendly celebrations on Picton’s foreshore or Blenheim’s Market Square.

Go Marlborough, with support from the Marlborough District Council, Port Marlborough and the Interislander, is staging public celebrations to welcome in the New Year in Picton and Blenheim.

  • Picton Foreshore celebrations begin at 7.30pm with a bouncy castle for the kids and music from top DJ Glen Kirby and talented local artist Lee Stewart. Then the Chilli Dogs will play through to midnight when there’ll be a spectacular fireworks display masterminded by local fireworks guru Kelvin Holdaway.
  • In Blenheim’s Market Square the celebrations take place in front of the Forum, beginning at 7.30pm with live music, and capped off by award-winning country artist Matt McNeilly backed by a top-shelf group of great musicians, the Big Iron Country Show Band.

Event co-ordinator Duncan Mackenzie says both Blenheim and Picton celebrations are family events and the venues will be alcohol-free areas. Armourguard security teams will patrol both sites to ensure public safety.

Bring a picnic rug or seats and warm jackets but don’t forget the dancing shoes!

Get set to be part of Ignite Marlborough – welcoming in 2012.
