Victoria staff recognised in New Year's Honours list
Victoria University staff Professor Peter Hughes and Professor Tony Angelo have been awarded New Year’s Honours.
Victoria Vice-Chancellor Professor Pat Walsh congratulated those who received New Year’s Honours. "I am truly delighted to see Victoria staff members receive two of our country’s highest honours, along with the other Victoria graduates, friends and associates on the list—they are well-deserved acknowledgements of the contributions that they have made to New Zealand."
Professor Peter Hughes
Professor Peter Hughes, Head of Victoria University’s School of Government, has been made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the State.
Professor Hughes has more than 30 years' experience in the public service, with roles including Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Funding Authority and Deputy Director-General of Health.
Professor Tony Angelo
Professor Tony Angelo, a Law Professor at Victoria University, has been made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to legal education.
Professor Angelo has a long-standing interest in the law of small states and has published extensively on the laws of Mauritius, Seychelles and the small nations of the Pacific. In 2003 he was made a Knight in the Order of Academic Palms (Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes académiques) by the French Government.
