Auckland City Police were out in force this New Year's Eve keeping a close eye on bars and licensed premises to ensure people felt safe and were safe.

Inspector Peter Raynes estimated around 75,000 people visited the Auckland CBD throughout the night. There were no major incidents and there were very few arrests.

For the majority, people behaved themselves. It was good to see people out celebrating, enjoying family time and getting into the festive season without going over the top, Inspector Raynes said.

Although there was a small amount of disorder reported, Police moved quickly to deal with any violent behaviour before it escalated.
