Hutt City Council officers recently visited Tyndall Street to inspect footpaths in the area ahead of scheduled repairs and noticed five trees in the street were of poor health and quality. The trees are also located directly under power lines and have not responded well to pruning.

Hutt City Council never take the decision to take out trees lightly, but as these five trees are of poor health and unlikely to develop into quality specimens they are going to be removed.

Removing the trees will happen at the same time as footpath repairs in the street and this work will commence in the week starting Monday 9 January 2012.

Hutt City Council takes a proactive approach to managing street trees across the city in line with our Urban Forest Plan. Our aim is to maintain quality street trees which look better and live longer. Well maintained trees are also safer and make an important contribution to the character of our city.

We anticipate the remaining trees in Tyndall Street will have a useful life of at least 20 years with regular maintenance of the trees and footpaths. The remaining trees, together with plenty of good vegetation and trees on private property and the backdrop of Hayward Scenic Reserve and the East Harbour Regional Park means Tyndall Street will retain a quality, green outlook.
