Top placed Canterbury Magicians earned the right to host the 50-over Action Cricket Cup and Action Cricket Twenty20 final this weekend against the Auckland Hearts who finished second in both competitions.

Main Power Oval in Rangiora will be the venue for the Action Cricket Cup 50-over game with a 10:30am start on Saturday 14 January.

Hagley Oval will then hold the Action Twenty20 match on Sunday 15 January which will be followed by an HRV Cup match between the Canterbury Wizards and Wellington Firebirds. The double header starts with the women’s game at 10:00am and in a goodwill gesture to the local Canterbury Cricket are offering free entry for both matches.

Defending champions, Canterbury, have been the form team throughout the domestic season, going unbeaten in both the 50 over and Twenty20 competition and will be looking to continue their stranglehold on the competition.

Auckland have been the big improvers this season after finishing fifth in both formats last year. They lost a solitary Twenty20 match and just two 50-over fixtures to secure their first finals’ appearance since 2009.

The round robin fixtures between the two sides were in the opening weekend of the competition and resulted in Canterbury victories in both formats.

Both matches will be scored live on the Major Association website and www.blackcaps.co.nz
