Taupo Police investigate Putaruru assault

Taupo Area Police are investigating a serious assault at Putaruru late on Saturday 7 January.

The Bay of Plenty District Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Tim Anderson, says a 71 year old local man was assaulted in an incident at the Putaruru Hotel at approximately 11pm at on Saturday night. He was transferred to Waikato Hospital on Sunday 8 January.

Police are speaking to a number of witnesses who were at the hotel at the time the incident occurred, and would be keen to talk to anyone else who may have been at the hotel or in the area then. Members of the public are asked to contact Putaruru Police on (07) 883 8199.

Police have no further comment to make at this time.
