DCC Telephone System Partial Failure
The Dunedin City Council experienced a partial telephone system failure today.
A hardware component fault was located in the telephone system which, for a period of just over two hours, blocked calls both to and from the DCC’s general enquiries number, 477 4000.
DCC Network Services Manager, Tim Oaks, said “As the telephone system has a back up system, we only experienced a partial failure. Calls to other DCC sites such as Moana Pool, the Dunedin Public Library and the i-SITE Dunedin Visitor Centre were unaffected.”
In the first instance, calls were redirected to the DCC’s after hours service, provided by Tellus until a fix could be found for the issue.
DCC Customer Services Agency Manager, Adrian Blair, said, “While there was a backlog of calls to be returned and some inconvenience and delay for our customers, our call volumes are very low a this time of year so we have been able to catch up quickly.”
The cause of the fault has been identified and DCC staff will work with the equipment vendor to replace the failed component. No additional costs were incurred, as the repair and work is covered by existing staff and service contracts.
