There is no significant change to the state of the Rena wreck. Good weather is forecast for the day.

Oil spill response

  • A total of 1,006 tonnes of oil waste has now been removed.

Salvage

  • Salvors have been on-board the bow section of the wreck assessing the state of containers.
  • 38 bags of milk powder have been de-vanned (removed) from a container have been removed by helicopter.
  • Smit Borneo is alongside the bow section of the wreck and salvors are hoping to start container removal from the bow.
  • Divers have nearly completed their assessment of the aft section. This information will help with planning of how to remove the wreck.

Wildlife

Today two grey-faced petrel will be released at sea. A small number of penguins will also be released.
