University staff honoured

Four University of Auckland staff featured in the New Year Honours list for 2012.

Two were made Companions of the New Zealand Order of Merit: Professor Margaret Brimble (School of Chemical Sciences) for services to science, and Dr Bruce Hadden, an Honorary Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, for services to ophthalmology.

Dr Jeremy Cooper, an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Anaesthesiology, became a Member of the NZ Order of Merit for services to medicine, and Dr Merata Kawharu, Research Director at the James Henare Māori Research Centre, an MNZM for services to Māori education.

A University of Auckland alumna, Rosanne Meo, was made a Dame Companion for services to business while in Britain John Buchanan, another Auckland alumnus, was knighted for services to industry.
