Join some of the best kite pilots in New Zealand and from around the world at Tip Top Kite Day, south of the pier at New Brighton Beach on Saturday 28 January.

Christchurch City Council Marketing Manager Richard Stokes says the free afternoon is a family outing to mark on the calendar.

“It’s all about passion, skill and family fun. Pack a picnic, bring a kite and let it soar amongst the hundreds of other kites of all shapes and sizes that will be colouring the sky.”

Kite experts will be on hand to demonstrate their skills and will be selling kites during the event.

The afternoon takes place during the Stronger Christchurch World Buskers Festival, which will see performances throughout the day at the nearby Ryan Security Buskers at Brighton venue, by the New Brighton Basketball Court. Acts include boxing clown Fraser “The Thumper” Hooper, comic daredevil Ernest the Magnifico and many more.

“With so much entertainment on offer, Tip Top Kite Day is an annual event that attracts thousands,” says Mr Stokes. “Get in early for a good park, or catch a bus and avoid the hassle altogether.”
