Aces to face Wizards in HRV Cup final

The two dominant team s of the 2011-12 HRV Cup, the Auckland Aces and the Canterbury Wizards, will do battle in the HRV Cup Twenty20 final on Sunday 22nd January.

The Aces finished top of the table giving them home advantage, with Colin Maiden Park set to host the final.

Both teams have been consistent throughout the competition and actually secured their final’s berth before the last round got underway. The experienced Auckland side finished with 30 points, while a well-balanced Canterbury side ended the regular season a full ten points clear of third spot on 28 points.

Defending champions the Aces lost their last round robin match to the Wizards in a thrilling preview of the final when Canterbury chased down 202 for victory. The other round robin game between the two saw another exciting run chase, with Martin Guptill smashed an unbeaten 120 to give Auckland a four wicket win.

The final will begin at 2.00pm and can be broadcast live on Sky TV and Radio Sport. The match will also be live scored on the Canterbury Cricket, Auckland Cricket and NZC websites.
