New Zealand is to be the Guest Country of Honour for the Frankfurt Book Fair, the world's largest book fair, in 2012.

Held annually in the second week of October, the Frankfurt Book Fair runs over 5 days - three days for trade and two for the public.

Tourism New Zealand General Manager Western Long Haul Markets Gregg Anderson says the event provides a fantastic opportunity for New Zealand to engage with one of its key European markets.

"As the Guest of Honour New Zealand has a year-long opportunity to showcase itself throughout Germany through literature, art and culture, promoting trade and tourism and strengthening political ties through cultural diplomacy."

Tourism New Zealand will help leverage New Zealand's Guest of Honour status with a range of PR, campaign and online activity, and will work closely with MCH and NZ Inc partners on projects of dual benefit.

The Frankfurt Book Fair project will be led by the Ministry for Culture & Heritage (MCH) and will involve a large NZ Inc wide team, including representatives from Tourism New Zealand. For more information visit the NZ at Frankfurt website.

"Tourism New Zealand will also be in Germany in March where we will be joining the stand organized by the New Zealand German Business Association at the ITB Berlin 2012 - one of the world's largest travel trade shows. The trade show takes place from 7 - 11 March 2012 with four New Zealand and five German travel companies present at the stand during the trade and consumer days."
