A Never-Ending Task

Thanks to the rain there’s been little slowing of the grass growth over summer, making it a busy time for Council lawn-mowing contractors who have worked hard to keep our public spaces looking good.

There’s more than six hundred thousand square metres of green to keep under control so they were on the job, mowing our reserves, right up until Christmas Eve and then again between Christmas and New Year.

Of course the job is complicated by the rubbish that has to be cleared before mowing; well over 100kg of rubbish is picked up from the Council reserves every Monday morning and further clean ups are done on Wednesdays and Fridays. This year, Boxing Day was the worst day for rubbish; perhaps because of all those Boxing Day sales!

The popular Taylor River reserve is one of the big jobs; important not only for public use but also to minimise fire risk. It’s a full-time job for a tractor and ride-on mower - no sooner is the four to five day mow completed, then it’s time to begin again.
