Work begins this Sunday (29 January) to rebuild the road surface of a section of Devon Street East.

From Sunday until 12 February, weather permitting, the top layers of road seal between Gover and Eliot streets will be removed and a new pavement laid with a hotmix surface.

The work will take place overnight, from 6pm to 6am, from Sundays to Thursdays. No road works will be carried out on Friday and Saturday nights.

“The contractor will minimise disruption to the public as much as possible but we ask for people’s patience while this work is under way,” says Roading Programming Engineer Steve Bowden.

“On-road car parking will be available during the day, however during this period the car parks will be unmarked.”

This is the latest stage of a four-year project to improve road surfaces in New Plymouth’s CBD.

The programme has been scheduled to avoid disrupting Americarna. Once the car festival has finished, the resurfacing of Brougham Street between Devon and Powderham, and of Devon Street East from Currie to Liardet, will take place concurrently.

This second section of Devon Street will also be undertaken overnight, but Brougham Street will be worked on during daytime hours.

Letters with details about the project have been sent to building occupiers on Devon Street from between Gover and Eliot. Updates will be posted online at newplymouthnz.com/CBDRoadWorks, and on NPDC’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
