Franklin District Council has learnt it is one of the first seven councils in New Zealand to be registered and accredited as a Building Consent Authority.

The Building Act 2004 (the Act) heralded many changes in the building industry. The Act requires that territorial authorities, like Franklin District Council, be registered and accredited by 30 November 2007 as a Building Consent Authority.

Due to Franklin District Council’s success in being one of the first councils to meet this requirement the Department of Building and Housing CEO, Katrina Bach, has invited Council to a special luncheon in Wellington. At this luncheon a representative of Council will be presented with a framed registration certificate.

“What great news to receive during my first week with Council,” says Franklin District Council’s CEO, Sally Davis.

“The work of Council’s Building Team has achieved a great result for Franklin District. The fact that we have been one of the first councils to reach this milestone demonstrates to me that Council is working hard on behalf of ratepayers.”
