An elderly woman has been robbed in broad daylight while walking to her home in the North Shore suburb of Browns Bay.

Detective Darren Attwood of the North Shore CIB says the 77 year old victim was walking north on the right hand side of Beach Road at about 11.15am yesterday, Saturday 4 February 2012:

“While continuing past the intersection with Carlisle Road, a male has approached her from the left side of the road. He has walked straight up to the victim and demanded her hand bag.”

“When the victim refused, the offender presented a metal object and pointed it straight at her chest. The object was covered in a black cloth. It appeared to be a gun barrel. The object was protruding out the end of the cloth.”

“The offender ripped the victim’s bag from her shoulder. He then ran back across Beach Road and got into the passengers side of a waiting vehicle. The vehicle drove north in the direction of Torbay.”

“The handbag is described as a small black handbag with a single strap. The victim was badly shaken but otherwise unharmed. She’s receiving assistance from Victim Support,” Detective Attwood said.
