Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA) is encouraging individual and business owners of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) stations to register their units with the national ambulance 111 centre.

WFA’s goal is to make our region the safest in the world to suffer a sudden cardiac arrest and to do this they need to create a register of AEDs in the community. The register will enable the 111 call taker to notify people of the exact location of the closest AED and support them to use it until an ambulance arrives.

The time from collapse to AED application is a crucial factor in the survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest, so knowing where the closest AED is gives those on the scene a better chance of assisting the patient.
