The Deputy Mayors of Hastings and Napier will dress in their most glamorous art deco outfits and take part in a fashion parade, as part of next weeks to 2WalkandCycle conference in Hastings.

Cynthia Bowers and Kathie Furlong will lead off the fashion parade in a pedicab and then hop on their own bikes and join the other models.

Hastings Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says “The Frocks on Bikes Fashion Parade is a great way of bringing glamour to the streets of Hastings. It is fitting that the parade of 1930’s fashion should be held in front of the Hawke’s Bay Opera House. It’s one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most impressive examples of Spanish Mission Architecture and the building will certainly add to glamour of this event.”

Deputy Mayor of Napier Kathie Furlong says “I am looking forward to dressing up one more time in a 1930’s outfit. Art Deco weekend showed how the whole region can be part of a fun event and Frocks on Bikes will give me another chance to indulge in our wonderful Art Deco culture.”

Frocks on Bikes is part of the 2WalkandCycle Conference which will place industry
professionals, researchers, Council and government officials, politicians and advocates at the forefront of discussions on the need to develop viable and sustainable walking and cycling options for the future.”

The public is welcome to come along and marvel at the wonderful 1930’s fashion and the vintage bicycles which will be on show at the Frocks on Bikes fashion show. It is to be held outside the Hawke’s Bay Opera House at 1pm on Thursday February 23rd.

The 2WalkandCycle Conference runs from Wednesday February 22nd to Friday February 24th.
