The Avonhead Park Cemetery interment site for the victims of the 22 February 2011 earthquake will be officially opened by the Mayor Bob Parker at 6pm today.

Mayor Bob Parker says that the Avonhead Park Cemetery is a beautiful, established park and the interment site is a fitting addition to the cemetery. The interment site will provide a special environment for
everyone to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and remember those who lost their lives.

"The official opening and dedication of the interment site today is a service for the families of those who lost their lives and there will be no official public opening event, " he says.

"Residents of Christchurch can visit the interment site from tomorrow, which marks the first anniversary of the 22 February 2011 earthquake," he says.

Note: This interment site is for the victims of the 22 February earthquake and is not to be confused with the Earthquake Memorial as mentioned in the Central City Plan.
