A master plan by Cambridge trainer Ralph Manning to target a series of Thoroughbred Bonus Scheme races in the South Island with his smart galloper, Keen Affair, is paying handsome dividends.

Keen Affair has already been the recipient of two Thoroughbred Bonus Scheme bonus payments this month and Manning is now targeting two more bonus races for him.

The first of these bonuses was received when Keen Affair won at Reefton on February 1 and then again was successful at Riccarton on February 15. On both occasions Keen Affair’s connections received a $10,000 bonus which was a very welcome addition to the prize-money on offer for the races concerned.

Manning who also owns the three-year-old son of Keeninsky and City Affair.

Manning said: “I sent him south to specially target the Thoroughbred Bonus Scheme races and the plan has come to fruition.”

“I have been a big supporter of this scheme from the outset and won the very first bonus when it was the NZISS scheme,” Manning said.

The future bonus scheme races on the radar for Keen Affair are another $10,000 bonus at Riccarton and a $30,000 bonus at Wingatui.

“I think after the Wingatui race it will be time for him to have a well deserved holiday,” he said.

The other recent winner of a TBS bonus was Acapela who picked up a $10,000 bonus in winning at the Tauranga meeting on January 7.
