Safety Fencing Being Installed on Coastal Walkway
A section of the Coastal Walkway is to be made safer for users with the installation of a fence.
In November last year the Council warned that erosion along the seaside cliff between Cutfield and Belt roads meant that people must stay on the concrete path for the their safety.
From tomorrow (Tuesday) a fence will be installed to ensure that people keep away from the cliff-top.
Manager Parks Mark Bruhn says the fence material is the same as that used elsewhere along the walkway.
“We need to keep people on the path as sea and wind action have progressively undermined the cliff to the point that we aren’t confident the grass section on the seaward side can hold a person’s weight,” he says. “We’re taking the cautious approach by installing this fence.”
The walkway route will remain open during the fence installation, which will be completed mid-March (weather permitting).
