If you go out to the Groynes on Sunday 4 March, you can be sure of a big surprise: the Co-operative Bank Children’s Day is being held from 11am to 4pm.

This nationally recognised annual event is always popular with children and families, providing free activities, performances, demonstrations and the iconic Teddy Bears Picnic on The Breeze Teddy Bears Picnic Lawn.

Christchurch City Council Recreation and Sports Unit Manager John Filsell says the day will be the perfect opportunity to create fond memories for younger children. “This year’s theme is ‘treasure our children’, and we’re happy to host an event where this can happen. The Groynes offers many walking tracks, lakes and waterways, so it’s a picturesque place for families to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a fantastic day.”

Activities include boat and pony rides, bouncy castles, soap-carving, sports, face-painting, storytimes, a New Zealand Police obstacle course, informative stalls and more.

For more information, please visit www.summertimes.co.nz. The event is Smokefree and dog-free.
