SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team carries good form into international season opener in Singapore

The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team carries good form into the OCBC Cycle Singapore Professional Criterium on Friday night, its first international event of the year.

Competing against a strong international professional field of over 70 riders including Australian sprint star and three time Tour de France Green Jersey winner Robbie McEwen, SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Manager Graeme Miller says he is still expecting a good result from his team.

“Paul (Odlin) has been to Singapore before and knows what is expected of him and the team to achieve a top result,” Miller says. “It is a fast circuit and suits both the sprinters and strong men. We have both the riders and the form and if all goes to plan we expect the team to perform well.”

Miller says he expects racing to be aggressive right from the start with average speeds well over 50 kilometres an hour and feels the SUBWAY® Pro Cycling riders all have good recent racing under their belts to be very competitive.

“We have Wes (Gough) and Pete (Latham) coming off some good track training and racing for the national team which should put them in the mix. Wes was third in a World Cup event in London and Matt (Gorter) had some great form in crits in the United States late last year so he is our dark horse.”

Miller says the team does not have a weak rider but could face challenges adjusting to the heat.

“Ninety minutes of max effort in 35 to 40 degree heat and humidity will be a huge telling factor on the boys, but they know what to expect and are motivated to do well.”


The pro criterium is raced on Singapore’s 1.7 kilometre F1 motor racing track under lights and is part of a three-day OCBC Cycle Singapore Festival. This year’s race includes former winners David Pell, Ben Kersten and defending champion Omar Bertazzo and starts and finishes at the F1 Pit Building.

Other top teams racing include McEwan’s GreenEDGE team from Australia, Britain’s Team Raleigh-GAC and American Pro teams United Healthcare Pro Cycling and Team Type 1 – Sanofi. The BikeNZ-Pure Black Racing team is also competing.
