Up to ten new racers will hit the track this year on offroad racing’s new youth race class, Kiwitruck. The class makes its national championship debut this year and will closely follow the senior classes, providing added family interest at each round of the championship.
Kiwitrucks are built to two specifications: “J” class introduces new racers to the sport, and has a simple, user-friendly drivetrain; “M” class uses a more powerful motorcycle engine and has a manual shift gearbox.
After an inaugural endurance series linked to big enduro races last year, drivers can now contest a full national championship of events. The J class racers this year include Fergus Crabb, Albany; Dyson Delahunty, Tauranga; Jasper Ryder, Whenuapai; and Marcus Runciman, Weymouth. In addition, Christchurch offroad racers Gavin and Renee Storer have imported two trucks for their daughters, which will be the first trucks to be run out of the South Island.
The M class racers include Jack Hawkeswood, Clevedon; Colby Langley, Whakatane, and Ollie McCall, Manukau.
Kiwitrucks will first hit the track at the Manukau round of the championship.
