AUCKLAND

With only one week to go, anyone wishing to stand for election to the Waiheke Local Board needs to get in quick.

Waiheke Local Board represents 6,500 electors and also includes the island communities of Ponui, Rotoroa, Pakatoa, Rakino, Motuihe, Motutapu and Rangitoto.

Local boards are a key part of Auckland's governance, providing local representation and decision making on behalf of the community.

Nominations must be in by noon on Thursday 15 March. To be eligible to stand for the position, a candidate must be a New Zealand citizen who is enrolled as a Parliamentary elector anywhere in New Zealand.

Candidates must be nominated on a nomination paper obtainable during normal business hours from one of the following:

* electoral office, Independent Election Services Ltd, ground floor, Bledisloe House, 24 Wellesley Street West, Auckland * Waiheke customer service centre, 10 Belgium Street, Ostend, Waiheke * Auckland Council website, www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz * by phoning (09) 973 5212.

A postal ballot of Waiheke electors will commence on Thursday 12 April 2012 when voting packs are delivered. All votes must be returned by noon, Friday 4 May 2012.
