The Dunedin City Council has appointed Graham McKerracher to the newly established role of Council Communications and Marketing Manager.

Currently employed as Senior Communications Advisor with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority, Graham brings a wide range of experience in public relations, communication and journalism roles to the restructured DCC department together with a working knowledge of Dunedin media organisations.

He is a former Dunedin-based Radio New Zealand journalist, Channel 9 TV chief reporter and local government reporter for the Gore Ensign.

In his current role he has been involved in managing public relations and events for the ‘Warm Up New Zealand:Heat Smart’ insulation and efficient heating campaign.

As well as his media experience he has held communications and marketing roles for Inland Revenue, the Ministry for the Environment, the University of Otago and New Zealand Herefords.

Earlier, Graham led the National Diploma in Journalism at the Aoraki Polytechnic School of Media in Dunedin where he was responsible for managing the academic programme.

Graham currently lives in Wellington but is looking forward to returning to Dunedin to begin his new role on Monday, 23 April.

He has a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma for Graduates from the University of Otago, a certificate in journalism from Timaru’s Aoraki Polytechnic School of Journalism and a certificate in health management.

DCC General Manager, City Strategy and Development Dr Sue Bidrose says, “This appointment will solidify the department’s new focus on communication excellence and marketing strategy. We look forward to welcoming Graham back to Dunedin and to benefitting from the strengths he’ll bring to the DCC team.”
