Hastings War Memorial Library is about to have an internal facelift.

Repainting of the interior of the library will begin on Monday April 23rd, and could take around three months to complete.

“Library staff are excited about a fresh new colour scheme,” says Paula Murdoch, district libraries manager.

“The current ‘institutional’ green has had its day and it’s time to give the interior a bit of a lift with something more contemporary, to enhance our welcoming, comfortable and busy environment.”

The last interior painting was done in 1993 when the two wings were added to the building and then, only to the new areas were painted. Minor touchups were also done when the new carpet was laid three years ago.

Paula says all the stock and shelving will be removed from the walls and parts of the collection will be unavailable during this time.

“We will try to keep the inconvenience to a minimum, but to ensure public safety some areas will be blocked off while painting is underway.”

“The toilet facilities will also be painted and alternative arrangements have been made for those wanting to use those facilities during their visit to the library.”

When the Hastings War Memorial Library painting is complete, painting will begin on the interior of the Flaxmere Library.
