Waitemata District - Crime Statistics For 2011
The annual crime statistics for the calendar year January to December 2011 were released today. At a national level, recorded offences dropped by 20,289 to record 406,056 in total. New Zealand’s resident population rose by 0.8 per cent over the year.
Populated adjusted recorded offences in the Waitematä Police District dropped 2.1% in the 2011 calendar year. The total recorded crime rate of 36,214 offences is slightly down on 2010. The District’s resolution rate dropped slightly from 49.3% to 48.4% in 2011.
Waitematä District Commander Superintendent Bill Searle says the recorded crime rate continues an existing downward trend in recent years. The trends have gradually decreased per 10,000 people from 930.2 in 1995 to just 660 in 2011.
“Despite the positive results in recorded crime, in most crime categories, there has been increase in the number of vehicles stolen and thefts from cars. We will be looking for improvement in this area in 2012,” he said.
“A focus on preventative policing and working with our Government, Non Government, and Community Partners has been the focus of the District which has contributed to the positive results.”
“Dwelling burglary overall has continued to show a downward trend since 2010. Public order offences have dropped by 13.4% from 2948 in 2010, to 2554 in 2011. These results are pleasing and satisfying.”
“The region’s population growth continues unabated. It is predicted that there are now 548,000 people living in the Waitematä District,” Superintendent Searle said.
