Summary of water-related incidents over last 24hrs.

From media enquiries there appears to be some confusion around events due to proximity both in location and time.

To clarify:

7/4/12; 4.15pm.  Police attended at the request of ambulance when a 55yr old man died at the Chelsea sugar works.  Witnesses reported that the man may have entered the lake to rescue a dog being attacked by swans.  The man was pulled from the water but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.  North Shore police reported this event for the coroner.

8/4/12; 1.12am.  Yachties off Celsea sugar works reported hearing cries for help.  A search by Eagle, Deodar and other vessels located the body of a male in his early 30s who had gone swimming from the Te Atatu peninsula.  Henderson police investigated and reported this incident.

8/4/12;  2.14pm.  Ambulance reported that a 7yr old boy had been flown to Starship following a "near drowning" at Hahei.  Police did not attend and have no further details.

8/4/12;  2.30.  A 27 yr old man drowned after becoming trapped at the falls in the Waikino gorge (details as per earlier release).

I trust this clarifies events - enquiries in relation to further details can be obtained from the stations/agencies indicated.
