Cricket Nets Get New Look
The design of the cricket nets in Pukekura Park has been finalised, and the contract to construct them will be going out to tender in a few weeks.
New Plymouth District Council has released images of the final look of the nets which will be installed in the park off Fillis Street.
“This is a more simplified design than the original concept plan,” says Manager Parks Programmes Steve McGill.
“Instead of trusses there are now steel girders, which are less intrusive visually. The nets have also come down a little in height.”
The design is going through the building consent process now, and the contract is likely to go out to tender in late April or early May.
When completed, the nets will provide up to three lanes for players’ use.
Work on the facility’s foundation is making good progress. When it is completed, the Pukekura Park groundsman will lay the clay top so that it matches the conditions of the sportsground’s wicket.
Construction of the nets will begin before the middle of the year, depending on the weather.
