At this stage, a section of State Highway 2 just east of Paeroa closed this morning from 10.00 am is now expected to re open between by 4.00 pm today.

The closure is allowing allow contractors to remove a truck which rolled off the road prior to the Easter weekend; however the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that this is taking longer than expected.

Acting NZTA State Highway Manager, Bryce Carter, says the removal operation includes the shutting off of powerlines above the crash area to allow crane access into the drain to remove the truck.

"The NZTA is endeavouring to keep the length of the road closure to a minimum while maintaining the safety of all concerned," says Mr Carter.  "There are alternative routes available but we hope to have the road open again as soon as possible.  In the meantime, we'd like to thank motorists for their patience around this situation."
